Children's Programming and Events
Tuesday evenings Chess Group- During the summer, a chess club for children is held here at the Library,
with instruction available from our volunteer, Jonathan Doster. This is one of our most popular summer programs. The group meets at 5 p.m. and all skill levels are welcome. Call the Library @ 860-364-5041 for more information.
Summer Reading- A summer reading program is held each year, for children who are reading or being read to. Check the events calendar for programming.
Holiday Celebrations- The Hotchkiss Library is happy to host many holiday celebrations. We have an open house at Halloween, Santa visits in December, and we host a Valentine's Day Tea with the Sharon Historical Society in February. Check the events calendar for more information.
Good Dog- Tuesday evenings during the summer, a canine reading buddy visits the Library to listen to children who would like to read to him. Besides being fantastic listeners, our visiting dogs love any and all attention children visiting the Library give them. This is a drop in program and does not require an appointment or registration.
Reading Buddies- Good Dog is a highly regarded program that pairs a child with a reading team (a dog and owner) to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Teams meet at the library for private sessions on a scheduled basis. This is a program that requires the interested parent to contact the library regarding the availability of reading teams in the area. Call 860-364-5041 for more information.
