Library Policies and Services


Circulation Policies

New Fiction and New Non Fiction circulates for 14 days.
Main Collection materials circulate for 3 weeks.
DVDs circulated for 7 days.
Audiobooks, including Circuit Audios, circulate 3 weeks.

Your Library Card

Anyone who is a Sharon resident or tax payer is eligible for a Hotchkiss Library card, which is valid for three years. Hotchkiss Library patrons may use their card at other Connecticut libraries. There is no age restriction. We do issue cards to children when parents feel their child is responsible enough to have one.

Fines and Renewals

We do not charge overdue fines. In lieu of late fees, we encourage voluntary donations to our “conscience box” which is located at the front desk.

You can renew your library items through your online Bibliomation account or by calling the library.


Photocopies, Prints and Scans

The public may use the library’s photocopier, black and white printer, and scanner.   Each photocopy and print are $.25.

WiFi and Internet Use

The Library has four public computers with Internet access as well as access to a black and white printer. The Library has Wifi as well which is even accessible outside.

Computer Access and WiFi

The library offers free computer access to the public and free WiFi access.

Kindles, Nooks, and iPads

The library has Kindles and Nooks that are available for patron borrowing.  Two iPads are available in the Reading Room for adults to use.  We also have an iPad dedicated to children’s usage that is also available.

Reading Room

The Library features a quiet reading room where the public may read the day’s papers as well as magazines to which the Library subscribes.

Bibliomation Catalog: The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon belongs to the Bibliomation Library consortium.

Iconn Services

Run by the Connecticut State Library, ICONN offers all Connecticut library patrons access to library materials in all Connecticut libraries: public, academic and special. ICONN also offers access to popular magazines, medical, biographical and historical databases, and archives. Connecticut library card holders may also access HeritageQuest, where library cardholders can begin in-depth genealogical research.


Currently the Library has an ARTpass to the Wadsworth Athenaeum. This pass covers the cost of admission for 2 adults.

The 2015 Ct State Parks and Forests Day Pass can be used to cover the admission fee for two adults and four children at state historical sites and exhibit centers,

The Maritime Aquarium provides library discount cards that are good for a $2.oo per person discount.

The Library Pass to Connecticut’s Old State House provides free admission for two children and two adults.

Coupons to visit the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford are available.

Visit the USS Constitution on your next trip to Boston. The Library has four separate passes that allow up to 9 people in for free.
