Summer Reading Program

A summer reading program is held each year, for children who are reading or being read to.  This year our theme is “Grow Into Summer Reading”. Children and their Caregivers are encouraged to sign up for summer reading starting Saturday, June 21st, 2014 during normal library hours. This year each child who signs up will have the opportunity to plant a flower seed in a CowPot before leaving the library and taking it home to care for throughout the summer.  The Hotchkiss Library wishes to express their thanks to Freund’s Farm Market in East Canaan who generously donated the CowPots and seeds.

The library is also pleased to announce that all Summer Reading Participants will receive a $5 coupon to Oblong Books and Music and all participants will be entered to win a gift certificate to the store at the end of summer reading.

Also, on hand for the summer reading sign up will be a selection of gently used children’s books for sale that parents can choose from to jumpstart summer reading.

Some children’s activities to look forward to this summer:

  • Tuesday Evening Chess with Jonathan Doster starting Tuesday, July 8th. 2014
  • Drop In Crafts
  • Treasure Box Selections for Summer Reading participants
  • Fairy House Building
  • Lego Building
